IT'S NOT ALL SMILES

Toward the end of the second season of "Hannah Montana," she fell into despair, but her blues blew away thanks to Vanessa, a 9-year-old with cystic fibrosis whom Cyrus met at a Los Angeles hospital. "When I met Vanessa, all the superficial obsession over my skin and all the darkness I'd been feeling fell away."
MEAN GIRLS: BEING BULLIED
Before she became Hannah Montana, Cyrus writes, she had to endure daily hazing from bullies in sixth grade, who did everything from stealing her books to locking her in the school bathroom. Looking back, "sometimes I wish I could get an apology [from the mean girls], but to be honest I don't need one," she says. "I moved on and I believe they moved on as well. It helped make me the person I am today."
“The girls took it beyond normal bullying. These were big, tough girls. I was scrawny and short. They were fully capable of doing me bodily harm. They shoved me in. I was trapped. I banged on the door until my fists hurt. Nobody came. I spent what felt like an hour in there, waiting for someone to rescue me, wondering how my life had gotten so messed up.”
“It seemed like ‘Operation Make Miley Miserable’ was escalating to a new level. More like ‘Operation Take Miley Down’. Three girls strutted up and stood towering over me. My stomach churned. I clutched my grilled cheese sandwich like it was the hand of my best friend. It pretty much was my best friend those days. I was done for. They started cussing me and telling me to get up. I sat there, frozen. I didn’t know what to do. Finally, I couldn’t take it anymore. I wasn’t chicken. What could they do to me? I was surrounded by people. I stood up, still a foot shorter then they were, and said, ‘What’s your problem? What did I ever do to you?’”
PRINCE CHARMING
She tells of falling for him immediately at an AIDS benefit in 2006, of reuniting with him at a White House Easter egg roll during a time they had split up, and of the final parting, in December 2007.
"(I wrote it to) punish him, to get him back for hurting me (but the song is) about forgiving, not forgetting. It's hard to imagine that our love is a story with an end. But you know, at least I'm getting some really good songs out of it."
"(The day we broke up was) the hardest day ever. Deep down I know we weren't being our best selves. And that was what I wanted - and thought I deserved - in a relationship."
When she stopped by The View on March 9th 2009, "Prince Charming" was once again the subject of conversation.
"It was great and it was fun, but I was really young," she said of the relationship. "I live in a very mature world. ... We're just so busy. Unlike most 12-year-olds or 13-year-olds, we're, like, 'Oh yeah, I can't hang out with you today 'cause I gotta go to work. ... I'm in Germany doing a concert.' And so that got hard."
"I still love him with everything in me," she said. "I think he is the greatest. I get asked all the time who's my favorite Jonas. Nick's my favorite Jonas. I'm happy with our friendship."
A HEART CONDITION
The non-life-threatening condition makes Miley's heart rhythm exceed the range of a normal resting heart rate,
"The type of tachycardia I have isn't dangerous. It won't hurt me, but it does bother me," the 16-year-old wrote in her autobiography. "There is never a time onstage when I'm not thinking about my heart."
DADDY'S GIRL
"The media has said some stuff about my dad and me being too close and too cuddly for a father and a daughter. For me and my dad, it's not weird at all [...] We don't let other people tell us what expressions we're supposed to have on our faces when we take a picture together!"
She doesn't directly mention last year's photo shoot for Vanity Fair, when she is shown reclining against her father, his arm around her shoulder, both of them somber and bare-armed -- an image many found suggestive.
PAPPY
[Writing about] the loss of my granddad [was hard]," she said. "That was something I hadn't talked about in a long time, and I was really happy. ... It was really good to just remember that."
FIGHTING WITH EMILY?
"In Miles to Go," Cyrus writes of her down-then-up relationship with another "Hannah Montana" star, Emily Osment.
MEDIA INVASION
Acknowledging that fame inevitably attracts criticism, she writes of being hurt by comments posted about her on the Internet and concludes that some people are "so full of anger, hatred and bitterness."
Referring to the media, she regrets that people make profits off her troubles, and wishes they instead would profit from her "achievements."
